Crystal Clear

Following early success with “Let’s Get Started” on Reformed (included on Andy C’s Nightlife 2 compilation) Crystal Clear soon found himself hooked on music production. Following a chance meeting with another rising star Xample the two set about combining their talents to, as he puts it “see what we could come up with”...

The result was the anthemic “Sister” released on Ram’s sister label Frequency and the critically acclaimed “Heaven & Hell”, part of the Dimensions EP.

Around this time Crystal came to the attention of drum and bass legend and Playaz aficionado DJ Hype. Seeing an artist with a good attitude and range as a producer, flipping from jump up bangers to smooth, liquid rollers he soon snapped Mr Clear up to join the Playaz camp and his debut “2Tone Sound” was released soon after.

Hype and Pascal’s Playaz/Ganja roster, Crystal Clear has gone from strength to strength, working to forge a “solid sound” that’s earning respect from the highest quarters.

With club smashers “Cold Blooded” and “Streethawk” having sold out in a week, his much anticipated “175 Remix” having destroyed dancefloors nationwide and “Itzalot” receiving national airplay from the likes of Annie Mac, Grooverider & Mistajam, things are flying for Crystal Clear.

2011 saw dancefloor smashes "Heavy" (alongside Zen) and Pure Thought take clubs and radio stations by storm. In addition to this "Levels" (alongside long time collaborator Stapleton) received extensive radio play, even getting a rewind by Huw Stephens on daytime Radio 1.

Known for consistently coming up with the remix goods Crystal Clear has undertaken such classics as “Only 1Life” by Ganja Kru, “Heavy Metal” by Twisted Individual and “Every Song” by Sarah Cruz. In addition to this his remix of Zen’s “Full Effect” was chosen as Grooverider’s rewind track on Radio 1…need we say more?!

Not just a producer, Crystal Clear is a DJ resident at Playaz @ Fabric and adept at working a crowd having graced the decks of clubs across the world.

Feeling that the time was right to launch his own imprint, Summer 09 saw the launch of Cold Blooded Recordings. As another outlet for Crystal Clear (as well as great music of all genres), since its inception Cold Blooded has kept a firm eye on quality control and (we hope) our back catalogue speaks for itself.

Harvest

Hailing from the UK’s “second city”, Pete Styles aka Harvest sprang onto the drum and bass scene with the double-bass-heavy “Militant”, setting the pace for what was to be a steady rise through the dnb ranks.

With hard work and a natural flare in the studio his music soon found its way into the most prestigious of dj sets, with the likes of Andy C, Hype, Hazard, Original Sin, Grooverider, Danny Byrd, Nutone, Crissy Criss and Marky providing heavyweight support.

From featuring in mini mixes on Annie Mac’s show on Radio 1 to rewinds during Andy C sets at Global Gathering, Harvest’s music has been turning heads.

Coming from a musical background, Harvest played guitar in bands for years before turning his hand to drum and bass. This musical heritage helped him to form a robust, unique sound belying the relatively short time he’s been producing.

Harvest is known for being a diverse producer, sliding effortlesslybetween jump up, jungle, liquid and dark minimal music angles - a trait that is reflected in his DJ sets that can be caught both in the UK and around the world.

BOOK MATTIX & FUTILE

Jack Wakeman and Mike Davis, aka Mattix & Futile, are two fresh DJ/producers from Brighton, UK.

Their sound encompasses the clean, technical know-how of Subfocus and Nero with a bit of extra grit thrown in for good measure...the bastard child of the Pendulum generation if you will.

Their first single Rising Up/Substance was hammered by Friction, D-Minds and even featured as Grooveriders rewind track on BBC Radio 1 alongside regular airplay from the man himself.

Their first outing on Cold Blooded has seen a massive response with solid support from the likes of Crissy Criss, Friction, Majistrate and, of course, CB supremo Crystal Clear.

Firm DJ favourites in the South East, they have smahed the decks alongside the likes of Andy C, Phantasy, Aquasky, Metrik and Nero to name but a few.

Crystal Clear & Zen

It wasn't until 2009 however that they finally got in the studio together to work on some beats. By this time both Crystal Clear and Zen had thoroughly cut their teeth production wise so the results were guaranteed not to disappoint.

Their first effort "The Man With No Name" formed part of Crystal Clear's EP "Strength In Numbers" on Frontline and was played by...well... just about everyone.

They've since gone on to find their production sweet spot making such smashers as "Settle Down" and "Heavy" as well as the huge Cold Blooded bangers "Gang Related" and "City Lights"

Zen has achieved individual acclaim with a succession of massive tunes on Grid Recordings as well as his own Flip Audio imprint.

Smash Bros

Following a chance meeting on AIM (the dnb scene’s dubious communication method of choice) Crystal Clear and a certain Calvin Black aka Rhythm Beater instantly held a mutual respect for each others music.

With Crystal Clear’s pedigree and Cutter’s Choice head boy Rhythm Beater’s killer productions making their way into such prestigious record boxes as John Peel and Mary Anne Hobbs over the years, their collaboration was always going to turn heads.

The initial result of this meeting of minds is the techno-fuelled “So Be It” and the big and bashy “Technofear”.

Expect a lot more from the Smash Bros in the future including the mighty “Magnetix”.

Bluescreens

Hailing from "the heart of France", Bluescreens (aka Stoneway and LigOne) have been steadily crafting their production style and DJ skills since 2003.

Click here to read more or less...

Initially having met through their mutual love of skateboarding, Bluescreens soon found that they also shared a mutual passion for scratching and turntablism.

Heavily influenced in the early days by hip hop and breakbeat they both set about becoming consummate turntable ninjas, emulating dj’s such as Craze and DJ Shadow.

At the same time they were also being influenced by the sounds of the Chemical Brothers and the Propellerheads.

Their production took a major twist however, upon hearing a dj set by Andy C featuring tunes such as Watermelon by Ed Rush & Optical and Planet Dust by Bad Company.

From then on their focus shifted towards crafting futuristic, cutting edge drum & bass, all the while combining the funk and technicality of their early influences both in their production and dj sets.

The hard work paid off and culminated in 2 things:

LigOne became 2010 DMC World Champion turntablist and Bluescreens completed their first single for Cold Blooded – Bad Reasoning / For Real, due for release on 9th May 2011.
